A key factor in ensuring good performance and protecting your boat’s engine and transmission.
The Modern-Boat team takes particular care of your boat’s propulsion system – an area that is often neglected.
Unfortunately, this part of the boat is all too often cleaned using acid. This makes metals porous, particularly bronze propellers, which lose their strength over the years.
Our experience over many years enables us to adapt the products we use on propellers, as their compositions have been modified to comply with environmental standards. Added to this is the significant rise in water temperature, which makes certain products less effective.
Your boat’s performance and fuel consumption depend on the build-up of fouling on your propellers, IPS pods and other submerged parts.
These are often the cause of mechanical malfunctions, resulting in engine overheating and vibrations whilst underway, which in turn lead to high fuel consumption.
For many years now, Modern-Boat has chosen not to use acid for cleaning propellers and other submerged mechanical parts.
During all our hull maintenance and antifouling operations, the propellers and pods are removed and manually sanded by our technicians. The pod shafts are also cleaned and greased.
We invite you to compare the attached photos showing propellers that were treated one year ago with those that received no treatment beyond acid cleaning. The difference is striking, and the impact on your boat's performance and fuel consumption becomes clear.
That is why we recommend carrying out this procedure once a year.
